Question categories:  Web-a-File

When using an FTP client to upload files to Web-a-File, what should I enter in the Host Name/Address field?

Answer by Stuart Pierce, Knowledge Base Support

You already have a free Web-a-file account, if you have subscribed for one of the following shared hosting plans with Aplus.Net:

  • Unix-based – Personal Unix XR, Pro, eCommerce Unix;
  • Windows-based – Personal Windows XR, Pro Windows, eCommerce Windows.

However, the Web-a-File service is not meant to operate with FTP. You have two different ways to upload your files or directories to the Web-a-File server:

I. With the Web-a-File client software.

You can download for free the Web-a-File client software at http://web-a-file.com. Once you download the program, you have to install it on your local computer.

Here are some related links on how to use the Web-a-File client software:

II. On the Web-a-File website interface.

Go to http://web-a-file.com and login with your username and password. The username is the same as your main FTP username (associated with your hosting plan) with prefix ap. (for example, if your FTP username is bill, your Web-a-File username will be ap.bill); the password is the same as your main FTP password.
