What makes a great web design?

Web designing is a true art. Design success comes only after careful consideration of content placement, graphics, functionality, and template plans are thoroughly evaluated. This process may (and, in fact, should) take time to complete: days, weeks and perhaps even months, depending on the complexity of the site.

The idea of what it takes to create a great web site must be taken into context. For example, search engines would like you to create a faster loading site, perhaps compromising the use of graphics and other creative elements. Media companies, however, place greater credence on the creative elements, including graphics and other visual enhancements. Thus, your design goal will be subjective.

The most important thing to keep in mind is the audience you are targeting. Making a site that is appealing, navigable, clean and functional to your visitors is the first priority.
