Swish: This is a good solution if you do not have a lot of knowledge
regarding the coding and animation that are required to make
flash movies, for this program basically makes it very simple to
create one. There is a few little interactive 'actions' that can
be set but nothing too complicated for an average user. Lots
of users prefer to simply use Swish for their text effects. Then,
they import their work into Flash to save time with the animation.
An average computer user could use Swish and figure out its features
and tools pretty quickly. It has a number of effects that can
be used to bring in and fade out text in different manners. Its main
limitation: even though it can import images, only certain effects
can be applied to them.
Flash: This is the full application with all features and
actions included and ready to go. This program can be very confusing
to someone that has never used it before. The time line and the way
the objects need to interact is very confusing. Macromedia Flash is very powerful if
the user is a savvy graphic designer. Users can create interactive
movies and interfaces and even interactive animated shopping
carts that interface with PHP or ASP for the back-end. The learning
curve to get familiar with this application is higher than the one
required learning Swish. http://www.flashkit.com is
a great resource for checking some code examples.
