What is a domain name?

A domain name is the unique name that identifies a specific internet site. The domain name is the words you have chosen to call your website instead of using the IP address of the hosting server.

For instance “aplus.net” is a domain name. It is much easier to remember a domain name than its IP address.

Note: It is also possible for a Domain Name to exist (to be registered) but not be connected to an actual hosting service.
