What is MPLS?

MPLS (MultiProtocol Label Switching) enables administrators to define routes known as label switched paths (LSPs) from one LER (Label Edge Router) to another, through a series of LSRs (Line Service Requests), across the MPLS network. These LSPs are pre-assigned and pre-engineered paths that packets with a certain label should follow.
