how do i install the coppermine photo gallery, if i have a unix-based hosting plan?

Answer by: Stuart Pierce, Aplus.Net Knowledge Base Support

Coppermine is a multi-purpose, fully-featured web picture gallery written in PHP and using a MySQL database. It is available for installation through the Aplus.Net Control Panel for the following Unix-based hosting plans:

  • Business Class Unix
  • Pro Unix
  • eCommerce Unix

Here is how you can install the Coppermine Photo Gallery using the Aplus.Net Control Panel:

  1. Start by logging into the Aplus.Net Control Panel at http://cp.aplus.net using your Registration Number and Customer Password.
  2. Select Web Hosting from the top navigation bar.
  3. Next, select Hosted Domains and click on Manage Hosted Domains.
  4. Now, select the hosted domain that you’d like to manage.
  5. Click the Design tab.
  6. Click the Coppermine Photo Gallery icon.
  7. Type in your Administrator password in the respective text field. Your Administrator username will be the same as your main FTP username.
  8. Type in your Administrator email in the respective text field.
  9. This tool uses a MySQL database. Please choose a database from your existing ones using the respective drop-down menu.

Note: The tool will suggest the optimal database but you have the full control to select which one should be used for the installation

  1. Choose the install location of your Coppermine Gallery using the respective radio buttons. You have two options here:
    1. To install the gallery in a sub directory of your /html folder named cpg. The Gallery Homepage URL would be: http://www.yourdomain.com/cpg
    2. To install the gallery in a subdomain of your domain name (in this case you can also modify the subdomain name from cpg to whatever name you like). The Gallery Homepage URL would be: http://cpg.yourdomain.com
  2. Finally, click Install.

You can now use the Administer link to go to the Configuration screen of your Coppermine Photo Gallery. Click the View link to go to the gallery homepage.

An extensive documentation (in HTML format) for the Coppermine Photo Gallery is uploaded to your FTP space as part of the installation process. The documentation is located in a folder named docs which is created inside your Coppermine installation directory.

Examples:

  1. If you have installed your Coppermine Photo Gallery in a sub directory of your /html, the documentation will be located at:
  2. If you have installed your Coppermine Photo Gallery in a subdomain named cpg, the documentation will be located at:
