The Microsoft Smart
Tag, used to link words on a website to specific external
links without the webmaster's consent, has become a highly controversial
issue. Simply put, Microsoft will insert links where links were
not intended.
To counter the controversy, Microsoft turned off this feature
with Office XP and is not currently offering it through
the newly introduced Windows XP operating system. However,
some webmasters would prefer not take the chance and have elected
to include a meta tag that will prevent Smart Tags from
executing
To ensure that your website is protected from executing hidden
Smart Tag commands, insert the following into the head portion
of your document:
