how does the IP blocker tool work?

Answer by: George Kaloyanov, Aplus.Net Knowledge Base Support.

With this tool, you can protect your website from being viewed from particular *IP addresses. For example, if you are aware of a malicious visitor to your website, you can use the IP Blocker tool to block his access.

*IP Address is the numeric address of the remote computer, usually in the form of : 10.101.1.22

Here is how to block particular IP addresses:

  1. Start by logging into the Aplus.Net Web Control Panel at http://cp.aplus.net using your Registration Number and Customer Password.
  2. Select Web Hosting from the top navigation bar.
  3. Next, select Hosted Domains and click on Manage Hosted Domains.
  4. Now, select the hosted domain that you’d like to manage.
  5. Click the IP Blocker icon.
  6. Choose the web directory you’d like to protect.

Important: If you protect a certain web directory, all its sub directories will inherit the protection. Ex: If you protect your main /html/ directory, your entire website will be protected from being viewed by a list of specific IP addresses.

  1. Enter the IP address you’d like to block in the respective text field and click Add IP. If you need to block multiple IP addresses, you can use the Add more IPs link in order to expand the text field.

Note: You can specify either full IP addresses, or partial networks. Example:

    • 10.10.1 – will block the entire network 10.10.1.x
    • 10.10.1.5 – will block this particular IP address
  1. Finally, click the Protect Location button. At this point, the IP addresses specified in step7 will not be able to access your website.

Note: You can use the Manage Protected Locations section to block additional IP addresses or to remove already blocked IPs.
