how do i use the rss feed reader tool available in the aplus.net control panel?

Answer by: Stuart Pierce, Aplus.Net Knowledge Base Support.

RSS (RDF Site Summary - formerly called Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) is a method of displaying news or other Web content that is available for "feeding" (distribution or syndication) from an online publisher to Web users. RSS is an XML format for sharing content among different Web sites such as news items, popular blogs, or bulletins. Originally developed by Netscape for its browser's Netcenter channels, the RSS specification is now available for anyone to use.

Aplus.Net offers RSS Feed Reader tool in the Control Panel. The tool generates automatically the HTML code you have to include in your web pages in order to display an RSS feed from a specific RSS file. You need only to know the URL of the RSS file. Usually, the sites supplying an RSS feed have a red/orange “RSS” button at their homepages. Click on this button to obtain the specific URL.

Here is how you can include RSS content on your web pages using the Aplus.Net Control Panel:

  1. Start by logging into the Aplus.Net Control Panel at http://cp.aplus.net using your Registration Number and Customer Password.
  2. Click on Web Hosting from the top navigation bar.
  3. Next, select Hosted Domains and click on Manage Hosted Domains.
  4. Select the hosted domain that you’d like to manage.
  5. Click on the Design tab.
  6. Click the RSS Feed Reader icon.
  7. Enter in the Add RSS URL text field the URL of the RSS file which you want to read from and click the Add button.

Note: You may add up to five URL’s.

  1. Choose whether or not to display a short description on each RSS item using the respective Show / Do not show radio-buttons.
  2. Select the number of RSS items to be displayed using the respective drop-down menu.
  3. Select background color for the RSS items using the respective drop-down menu.
  4. Select the font color using the respective drop-down menu.
  5. Now, you have two options:
    1. You can place automatically the HTML code for the RSS Feed Reader. Click the Import RSS Feed Reader button, select an existing web page, and then click on a desired location to insert the tool. Click Save from the top navigation to finish.

NOTE: Please have in mind that with this option you will have limited design capabilities, given the fact that the web page you have chosen already has content.

    1. Or, click the Grab html code button to copy to clipboard the required HTML code. You may use this code for of your all web pages you wish to have RSS content on. Once you have saved the HTML code into a certain website file, you will begin to receive RSS content from the specified source.

NOTE: With this option, you will be able to manually import the HTML code, thus obtaining full control over the design of your web page.
