how do i use the file gallery feature of my tikiwiki?

Answer by: Stuart Pierce, Aplus.Net Knowledge Base Support

The File Galleries feature of TikiWiki can be used as a file storage tool to backup or share your files. You can create as many file galleries as you want, and you can also assign permissions to other users to create file galleries and/or upload files. Of course, you can always download your files. Here is how to enable/disable the File Gallery feature of TikiWiki using the Aplus.Net Control Panel:

  1. Start by logging into the Aplus.Net Control Panel at http://cp.aplus.net using your Registration Number and Customer Password.
  2. Select Websites from the top navigation bar.
  3. Next, select Hosting Domains and click on Manage Hosting Domains.
  4. Now, select the hosted domain that you’d like to manage.
  5. Click on the Design tab.
  6. Click on the Tiki Wiki icon.
  7. Go to the Features tab.
  8. Use the respective radio buttons to enable/disable the File Galleries feature.
  9. With the Anonymous View checkbox you can set whether or not public users will be able to browse your galleries.
  10. Click Modify to save the changes.

Now, you have enabled the File Gallery feature for your TikiWiki. You can see below how you can create a file gallery, upload files, and set permissions for other users. To proceed with the management of your file galleries, click on the respective Manage button in the Control Panel. The other option would be to go to: http://yourdomain.com/twiki and to login as user admin using your administrative password (please make sure to replace “yourdomain.com” with your actual domain name).

CREATE A NEW FILE GALLERY:

  1. Click on File Galleries in the left panel menu.
  2. Then, click on the create new gallery link.
  3. A form to create a new gallery will be displayed. Most of the fields are self-explanatory but here are two you may pay special attention to:
    1. Gallery is visible to non-admin users – if checked, your file galleries cannot be browsed. However, you may later include a direct link on your website to make a certain file downloadable.
    2. Other users can upload files to this gallery – if checked, other registered users will be able to upload.
  4. Once you have filled in the form, please do not forget to click the Save button.

UPLOAD FILES:

  1. Click on Upload File from the File Galleries section found in the left panel menu.
  2. Enter a name and description for the file you are going to upload (optional).
  3. Select the File Gallery to upload to using the respective drop-down box.
  4. Browse to the files you are going to upload.

Note: You can make a batch upload of files by uploading a ZIP file and checking the Batch upload checkbox. If you leave it unchecked, the ZIP is uploaded as a single file.

  1. Finally, click on the upload button.

SET FILE GALLERY PERMISSIONS:

  1. Click on File Galleries in the left panel menu to see the list of available galleries.
  2. Click on the perms link in the “Actions” section of the desired gallery.
  3. Now, you can assign specific permissions for the groups you have created, as well as for the two default groups: Anonymous and Registered.

Note: The tiki_p_admin_file_galleries is a “master” permission which automatically includes the other permissions for File Galleries.
