How do i create additional users with editors’ rights for my mediawiki based website?

Answer by: Stuart Pierce, Aplus.Net Knowledge Base Support

The MediaWiki software has been designed to allow different users to edit the contents of a website. You can allow/disallow the anonymous editing option on your MediaWiki website using the Aplus.Net Control Panel. You can also allow/disallow the ability of a random visitor to create an editor’s account for your site.

Here is how to create additional accounts and define the options mentioned above:

  1. Start by logging into the Aplus.Net Control Panel at http://cp.aplus.net using your Registration Number and Customer Password.
  2. Select Web Hosting from the top navigation bar.
  3. Next, select Hosted Domains and click on Manage Hosted Domains.
  4. Now, select the hosted domain that you’d like to manage.
  5. Click on the Design tab.
  6. Click on the Media Wiki icon.
  7. Go to the Settings tab.

I. Create new account:

  1. Select Add a new user using the user selection drop-down menu.
  2. Enter the new user’s login information, real name and email address.
  3. Click Add to save the new user into the database.

II. Manage existing account:

  1. Select an existing user from the user selection drop-down menu.
  2. Update user’s login information, real name, and/or email address.
  3. Click Modify to save the changes into the database.

III. Change your MediaWiki user settings:

  1. Anonymous Browsing:
    1. Enabled (default option) – If enabled, visitors to your MediaWiki based site will be able to browse the pages.
    2. Disabled – If disabled, only registered users will be able to browse your web site pages.
  2. Anonymous Edits:
    1. Enabled – If enabled, each visitor to your MediaWiki based site will be able to edit the contents.
    2. Disabled (default option) – If disabled, only registered users will be able to edit the contents of your MediaWiki based site.
  3. Users Registration:
    1. Enabled – If enabled, each visitor to your MediaWiki based site will be able to create a user account, thus able to edit the content.
    2. Disabled (default option) – If disabled, only you as the administrator will be able to create additional user accounts.
  4. File Uploads:
    1. Enabled – If enabled, all registered users will be able to upload files to your MediaWiki based site.
