How do I change permissions on files and directories with my windows-based hosting plan?

Answer by: Stuart Pierce, Aplus.Net Knowledge Base Support.

You can use the File Manager tool available in the Aplus.Net Control Panel to change permissions on files and directories. Please note that the instructions below apply to Windows-based hosting plans only. Here is how:

  1. Log into the Aplus.Net Control Panel at http://cp.aplus.net with your Registration number and Customer password.
  2. Select Web Hosting from the top navigation bar.
  3. Next, select Hosted Domains and click on Manage Hosted Domains.
  4. Click on the name of the domain you wish to manage.

Note: If your actual domain name does not yet resolve to Aplus.Net’s hosting servers, you must use the utility domain associated with your hosting plan.

  1. Click the File Manager-New icon.
  1. Right-click a file or directory in order to use the management menu and select Permissions.

  1. Check the box next to Allow my web scripts to modify this directory and its contents in order to setup writable permissions on this directory. If the box is unchecked, the directory/file will have only readable permissions.

  1. Click OK.
