Question categories:  Unix Plans

Can I add a new domain to my shared hosting plan and use all the plan features with it?

With Aplus.Net, you have the ability to add additional domains to your existing Unix-based shared hosting plan.

You can host certain number of domain names for free with each Unix-based hosting plan:

  • Personal Unix – 1 hosted domain name
  • Business Class Unix – 2 hosted domain names
  • Pro Unix – 2 hosted domain names
  • eCommerce Unix – 3 hosted domain names

You can associate more domains with your Unix-Based hosting plan. Hosting additional domains costs $1.99 / month for each additional domain.

You can add as many domains as you would like, as long as you stay within the size of the original web hosting plan. If the domain you add is parked in the “/” directory, you can use all the features of the plan associated with it.

If the domain is parked in “/yourdomain”, some of the features such as FrontPage extensions and SiteBuilder will not be functional. You can add other domains to your shared hosting plan by accessing the Aplus.Net Control Panel.

Here’s how:

  1. Log into the Aplus.Net Control Panel at http://cp.aplus.net with your registration number and customer password.
  2. Select Web Hosting from the top navigation bar.
  3. Next, select Hosted Domains and click on Host New Domain.
  4. Use the Hosting Plan drop-down menu to select the hosting plan that you want to host the new domain name with.
  5. Enter the domain name that you want to host.

Important: Do not type www.domain.com, type the exact name of your domain without any prefixes.

  1. Click Create to have the new domain added to your hosting plan.

Note: Make sure your domain is pointed to Aplus.Net’s name servers, primary: ns1.abac.com and secondary: ns2.abac.com.

Each domain associated with your hosting plan has its own prescribed “parking location”.  Files for the plan’s primary domain (usually the first domain associated with the hosting plan) must reside in the home/html directory. Associating additional domains with the hosting plan will create new directories within home/ named for the additional domains.  (For example, adding a second domain named aplus.net to your hosting plan will create a folder in home/ called aplus.net/.)  Files for these additional domains must be hosted in the html/ directory found within these newly-created directories (e.g. home/aplus.net/html/).
