Secure
Sockets Layer (SSL) is a protocol designed to enable encrypted,
authenticated connection across the Internet. SSL is used mostly in
communication between web browsers and web servers. URL's that begin
with 'https' indicate that an SSL connection will be used. Online
shopping sites frequently use SSL technology to safeguard credit card
information. In order to use the SSL protocol you need to have an SSL
certificate which is used for the server authentication, data
encryption, and message integrity checks.
I.
SHARED SSL CERTIFICATE
If
you have a Personal Unix, Business Class
Unix, Personal Windows, Business
Class Windows or Pro Windows hosting
plan:
There
is a working certificate signed by a Certificate Authority already
installed on the Aplus.Net hosting servers (our shared SSL
certificate). In order to use this SSL certificate you have to access
your site in the following format:
https://yourhostingserver.com/yourFTPusername.
"yourhostingserver.com" is the name of the server your site is located
on and "yourFTPusername" is the username of your main FTP account. You
can send an email to
and ask about your hosting
server hostname. Please include your Registration number and the main
FTP username of your shared hosting plan.
Security
Certificates work based on the IP address of the host. Since Personal
Unix,
Business Class Unix, Personal Windows, Business Class Windows and Pro
Windows hosting plans share IP addresses,
you will only be able
to use our shared SSL.
II.
OWN SSL CERTIFICATE
If
you have a Pro Unix, eCommerce Unix
or eCommerce Windows
hosting plan you can use your own commercial SSL certificate issued by
an official Certificate Authority. Aplus.Net has developed in the web
Control Panel a tool for purchase and installation of such a
certificate. The whole process is automatic and user-friendly. Although
you may obtain a commercial certificate from any company, we recommend
that you get your SSL certificate from Aplus.Net to ensure its seamless
integration with your web site.
Please
follow the instructions in the Knowledge base document below on how to
obtain your SSL certificate from Aplus.Net:
Note:
You can still use our shared SSL with Pro Unix, eCommerce Unix or
eCommerce Windows hosting plan.
