Secure
Sockets Layer (SSL) is a protocol designed to enable encrypted,
authenticated connection across the Internet. SSL is used mostly in
communication between web browsers and web servers. URL's that begin
with 'https' indicate that an SSL connection will be used. Online
shopping sites frequently use SSL technology to safeguard credit card
information. In order to use the SSL protocol you need to have an SSL
certificate which is used for the server authentication, data
encryption, and message integrity checks. Commercial SSL certificates
are issued by official Identity Assurance authorities as is the case
with the certificate offered by Aplus.Net.
The
SSL certificates purchased from Aplus.Net do not have the option to be
automatically renewed. You have to do this manually before the
certificate expiration date. Here is how you can renew your SSL
certificate using the Control Panel:
- Start
by logging to the Aplus.Net Control Panel at http://cp.aplus.net
using your Registration number and Customer
password.
- Select
Web Hosting from the top navigation bar.
- Next,
select Hosted Domains and click on Manage
Hosted Domains.
- Now,
select the hosted domain name that you’d like to manage.
- Click
the Secure Server Certificate icon.
- Click
the renew / replace link
associated with your SSL certificate.
Note: If
you supply the same personal information for the new certificate, you
will renew the existing certificate. On
the other hand, if you change your personal information, you will
actually replace your existing certificate with the
new one.
- Select
the SSL certificate you need and click the respective Sign Up Now button.
- On
the Subscribe screen you have to specify:
- The
time
period
for which the certificate will be valid – choose one, two, or
three years using the corresponding radio buttons.
- Your
personal contact information in the respective text fields.
Important:
SSLCert Servers Number – this
option is available only for the SSL 1MIL Multi
certificate which is also the only offered certificate which secures
all subdomains associated with your domain name. It specifies on how
many physically separate servers (on which you might host your
subdomains) the certificate will be valid.
- Whether
you
choose to add a TrustLogo to enhance the effect of your SSL
certificate. A TrustLogo delivers your own real-time identity assurance
verification to your web site visitors. If you decide to add a
TrustLogo to your SSL certificate, you have two options:
- TrustLogo
- provides
your customers with real-time identity assurance through convenient
"point to verify" technology. This lets your web site visitors know
visually that you have a verified and legitimate site, thereby
enhancing trust and confidence in your online identity. The
TrustLogo appears at the bottom right corner of your web pages. When
clicked on, it displays a confirmation window with your SSL certificate
contact information.
- Card
Payment TrustLogo - Many
customers are lost at the point of sale simply because they do not want
to risk an online transaction. You can overcome consumer fears by
dynamically informing customers that your site is trusted by leading
credit card companies.
- Click
Proceed to Finalize Order.
- Now,
you can review your subscription information. Click Finalize
Order when ready.
- Next,
you will see a confirmation screen. Click Manage this service
plan to go back to the Secure Server Certificate Managing
tool.
