The
Aplus.Net Control Panel
makes it easy to restrict access to individual directories in your web
space.
If
you would like to password protect your /html directory (or any
subdirectory found within the /html directory), you can use the Protect
Directories tool.
Here’s
how:
- Start
by logging into the Aplus.Net Control Panel at http://cp.aplus.net
using your Registration Number and Customer Password.
- Select
Web Hosting from the top navigation bar.
- Next,
select Hosted Domains and click on Manage
Hosted Domains.
- Now,
select the hosted domain name that you’d like to manage.
- Click
the Protect Directories icon.
- Select
the directory that you’d like to password protect from the Choose
the directory to be protected drop-down menu.
- In
the Add a username… dialogue, enter a Username
and Password for this directory. Click Add
User when finished. You can repeat steps 6 and 7 for all of
the users of this directory.
- You
can use the Manage
Protected Directories section
to remove Users or the entire Protection. Select the particular
Protected Directory and Users using the respective drop-down menus:
Important:
Password
protecting a directory will set-up password protection for all of that
directory’s subdirectories as well. For example, if you
password protect the /html/ directory that contains an images/ and a
downloads/ directory, a password will be necessary to access
html/images/ and html/downloads/ as well as /html/.
If
you would like to establish password protection for a directory other
than the html/ directory (or its subdirectories), you will not be able
to use the Protect Directories function found in the Control Panel -
you will have to create an .htaccess file for that individual directory.
Note:
If you have a Windows-based hosting plan, you cannot use .htaccess
files.
