I.
What is ActiveX:
ActiveX is a
technology developed by Microsoft. With an ActiveX-enabled browser
(i.e. Internet Explorer),
ActiveX controls can be downloaded as part of a Web Page
to add functionality to the browser (similar to Java applets).
An ActiveX component is a COM component that is intended to be portable
across more than one platform. Among other things, ActiveX controls can
be downloaded from a web server and operate on the client computer
outside of the web browser. This is in contrast to a Java applet, which
can only operate within the confines of a web browser. ActiveX controls
were originally called OLE controls before they were modified to work
over the internet.
II.
What is the Aplus.Net
ActiveX File Uploader:
The
File Uploader
is an ActiveX control application, which is installed and executes on
the client computer. It establishes an FTP connection between your
local
machine and the hosting server. With this tool you can upload multiple
files and directories from your local computer directly to the hosting
server.
III.
How can I install the ActiveX File Uploader:
Prerequisites:
- You
must have
Administrative privileges
on your local computer.
- You need to
have .Net Framework
1.1
installed on your computer. You can download it from
Microsoft.Com. Here is a direct download
link.
- Your Internet
Explorer
security settings must allow for ActiveX controls
installation, initialization and execution.
(Optional)
The
best way to install the File Uploader ActiveX control without
lowering your security settings is to add your own
site
and the Control Panel
site
to your list of trusted websites. Your security settings will continue
to block potentially harmful ActiveX controls and scripting from other
sites but you will be able to use the File Uploader.
To
make these sites trusted websites, please do the following:
- In Internet
Explorer browser, click Tools,
and then click Internet
Options.
- On the Security
tab, click the Trusted
Sites icon.
- Click Sites
and
under Add this website
to the
zone, copy and paste the following website addresses,
clicking Add
for each one of them:
Note:
The Require server
verification
(https:) for all sites in this zone checkbox in order to
add a non-https site.
Installation:
- Start by logging to your Control Panel at http://cp.aplus.net
using your Registration number and Customer
password.
- Select Web
Hosting from the top navigation bar.
- Next, select Hosted
Domains and click on Manage
Hosted Domains.
- Now, select the hosted domain that you'd like to
manage.
- Click the File
Manager-New icon.
- On
the Internet Explorer's Information Bar you may see a prompt for
installing the add-on 'Control Panel FileManager Uploader' from the
publisher 'Abacus America Inc.'. Click Install ActiveX
Control... as shown in the picture below:
- After
downloading the control, you will see the dialog below, showing
the Publisher's information of the software being installed. Press the Install
button when you see the box shown on the picture below:
- Once
installed, select the Upload
button
within the
File Manager screen and click the Multiple
File
Upload button.
Important:
The ActiveX File
Uploader will upload to the directory currently opened in the File
Manager. It will also overwrite any files with matching names.
