SAFEGUARD
YOUR REGISTRATION NUMBER AND PASSWORD:
The
Web Control Panel controls all aspects of your Aplus.Net service
– from domain registration to web hosting. As such, it is
critical that you do not share your initial Registration Number and
Password with anyone you don’t completely trust –
including web developers or web development firms!
Your
initial registration number and password gives you unrestricted
access rights to the Control Panel. By giving this
information out, you risk compromising the security and the integrity
of your domain and Web site - now and in the future. For example, a
malicious person could take over or give the domain to someone else.
HOW
TO CREATE A LIMITED ACCOUNT FOR YOUR WEB DEVELOPER:
The
additional FTP accounts have limited access, and can only access the
directory you specify as a home directory and any directories contained
within that one. They also cannot access the email and website
management tools in the control panel or the account billing
information. You can give one of the additional ftp accounts to a web
design company, customers or employees who need to upload files.
Here
is how to create an Additional FTP Account (Unix-Based plans only):
- Start
by logging into the Aplus.Net Control Panel at http://cp.aplus.net
using your Registration Number and Customer Password.
- Select
Web Hosting from the
top navigation bar.
- Next,
select FTP Accounts and click on Manage
FTP Accounts.
- Click
on create additional for
the particular main FTP username you wish to create an additional FTP
account for.
- Enter
a username into the FTP Username field.
- Enter
a password into the Password field.
- Re-enter
your password into the Confirm Password field.
- Specify
the highest directory that you want to grant this user access to in the
Home Directory field.
- Click
Create to add a new FTP user. Click Cancel
to escape.
Important:
For the Home directory field, leave this field as
“/” to give your web developer publishing rights
for your whole site, or specify a certain folder/section of your web
space if you want to restrict access. Do not grant access to your main
html folder as this will take the ownership from your main
ftp account and may cause certain services not to work properly.
HOW
TO REMOVE ADDITIONAL FTP ACCOUNTS THAT ARE NO LONGER NEEDED:
If
you part ways with anyone you have created an FTP login for, it is
important that you remove their FTP access.
Here
is how to remove an Additional FTP Account (Unix-Based plans only):
- Start
by logging into the Aplus.Net Web Control Panel at http://cp.aplus.net
using your Registration Number and Customer
Password.
- Select Web
Hosting
from the top navigation bar.
- Next,
select FTP Accounts and click on Manage
FTP Accounts.
- Click
on the delete link associated with the FTP account
that you’d like to remove. It is located in the Additional
Options column.
- Finally,
click Remove to confirm or Cancel
to escape.
