Can we purchase our own SSL certificate from ANY certificate authority?

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a protocol designed to enable encrypted, authenticated connection across the Internet. SSL is used mostly in communication between web browsers and web servers. URLs which begin with 'https' indicate that an SSL connection will be used. Online shopping sites frequently use SSL technology to safeguard credit card information. In order to use the SSL protocol you need to obtain an SSL certificate which is used for the server authentication, data encryption, and message integrity checks. Commercial SSL certificates are issued by official Certificate Authorities as is the case with the certificate offered by Aplus.Net.

Important: You can install a commercial certificate issued by a Certificate Authority only if you have one of the following hosting plans:

  • Pro Unix
  • eCommerce Unix
  • eCommerce Windows

I. PURCHASE A COMMERCIAL CERTIFICATE THROUGH APLUS.NET:

Aplus.Net has developed in the Control Panel a tool (Secure Server Certificate) for purchase and installation of a commercial certificate issued by a Certificate Authority. The whole process is automatic and user-friendly. Although you may obtain a commercial certificate from any company, we recommend that you get your SSL certificate from Aplus.Net to ensure its seamless integration with your web site.

For information on obtaining an SSL certificate from Aplus.Net, please follow the instructions in the Knowledge base document below:

II. PURCHASE A COMMERCIAL CERTIFICATE FROM A CERTIFICATE AUTHORITY OF YOUR CHOICE:

With the Secure Server Tool found in the Aplus.Net Control Panel (available with Pro, eCommerce Unix, and eCommerce Windows plans), you can install a secure certificate. A self signed (dummy) SSL certificate will be installed and you can use it without purchasing a secure certificate from a Certificate Authority. If you want to buy your own SSL certificate issued by a Certificate Authority you have to use this self signed (dummy) certificate as your actual certificate signing request. You will need the certificate signing request generated by the Secure Server tool in the Control Panel to request and buy your own certificate.

Important: You can purchase your certificate from any Certificate Authority using the Secure Server tool. You need to mention that your server software is Apache+mod_ssl, if you have Pro Unix or eCommerce Unix hosting plan.

Please follow the instructions in the Knowledge Base document below on how to proceed with the installation:
