Can I use SSI without changing the html extensions to shtml?

Aplus.Net’s shared hosting plans do not support extensions other than shtml for SSI.

However, please note that the "AllowOverride" directive is set to "All" for your directory. You are free to create your own ".htaccess" file into your html folder and change the behavior of Apache for your site.
