An SSL certificate
contains the following information:
- The domain name for which
the certificate was issued
- The owner of the certificate
and the domain name.
- The physical location
of the owner.
- The validity dates of
the certificate
When
you connect to a secure web server to visit a secure web site, the
server authenticates itself to the web browser by presenting a digital
certificate. The certificate is proof that an independent trusted
third party has verified that the website belongs to the company
it claims to belong to. A valid certificate gives customers confidence
that they are sending personal information securely, and to the right
place.
It is impossible
to add your own SSL certificate to a Business Class Unix plan because this requires
an IP address and Business Class Unix plans share the IP address of the server.
One
option is to use the shared SSL certificate by accessing your site
with: https://yourhostingserver.com/yourusername.
The other option is to upgrade your
plan to some IP based hosting plan such as Pro and eCommerce Unix. To do so please
call our Customer Care Department at 1-888-301-2516 (toll free) or
1-858-410-6900 (for international callers).
